An EduCHI Masterclass is a short (60-90 minutes) interactive virtual training session or workshop on a topic, concept, or teaching method that HCI educators can incorporate into an assignment, class, or program.
Masterclasses will be scheduled as virtual sessions in the weeks and months preceding the EduCHI 2024 symposium. All sessions will be free and open to the entire EduCHI community.

Accepted masterclass papers will be archived in the ACM Digital Library through the International Conference Proceedings Series (ICPS).

Preparing Your Submission
Please follow the guidelines below when preparing your masterclass for submission.
Submission Requirements & Length
All masterclass submissions must follow this structure:
- Introduction & Background: Describe the topic of your masterclass and provide a rationale for why you think it would be important, useful, or otherwise impactful for the EduCHI community. If possible, state concrete learning outcomes for the session.
- Organizer(s): Provide the background of the organizer(s) and explain their expertise in the proposed topic. Sessions may include multiple organizers, though we recommend no more than three.
- Proposed Format & Structure: Explain your plan for the masterclass session. How will you use the 60-90 minutes? Will it include a lecture, interactive exercises, group discussions, etc.? Keep in mind that all sessions will be held virtually.
- Abstract: Provide a short (150-word) description of the Masterclass that the organizers will publish and circulate to promote your session.
- Preferred Dates/Times: Propose at least three potential dates and times for your session, with time zones specified. Sessions must be scheduled between February and May 2024 and can be scheduled at any time based on the organizers’ availability and preferences. To aid with scheduling, we ask that organizers provide as much flexibility with times and dates as possible.
- References: Please add any relevant references or relevant readings.
While there is no strict page limit, we expect submissions to be roughly 1,000-3,000 words (not including references or supporting materials). Submissions under 1,000 words or over 4,000 words are likely to be rejected.
Formatting and Templates
Authors should prepare their submission using the ACM Master Article Submission template, available for Microsoft Word and LaTeX. Submissions may also be prepared in Overleaf using the ACM Conference Proceedings Primary Article template.
Note that there is a short window between acceptance notifications and papers uploaded to TAPS for processing by the ACM Digital Library. Therefore, authors should ensure their papers are correctly formatted before submission. Members of the organizing committee can help with a limited set of issues, but we ask authors to familiarize themselves with the guidance provided by ACM before requesting assistance.
Anonymization Policy
Masterclass submissions should not be anonymized.
Submission Process
Papers must be submitted via educhi2024.hotcrp.com.
Selection Process
Masterclass sessions will be selected through evaluation by a small jury of the symposium organizers. Jurors will consider both the fit and relevance to the EduCHI community.
Upon Acceptance of Your Masterclass
Following a conditional acceptance, organizers will be asked to (1) confirm the final date/time of their session and (2) prepare the final camera-ready version of their submission. The TPCs will review the camera-ready versions and approve and formally accept the submission.
At least one organizer of each accepted Masterclass must register for the symposium.
